What is Sahasra Deepalankara Seva
There is a long tradition of the Sahasra Deepalankara Seva of Tirumala temple. According to beliefs the ritual of lighting one thousand lamps has several centuries of history, conveying the message of light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. Lamps were regarded as a sacrificial offering to the divine and rows of deepams lit up by groups of devotees, or temple servants were a sign of piety in ancient India. In course of time this practice was made as a daily service at the Unjal Mandapam. The deity is put in a swing where there will be music and Vedic chants and is therefore a colorful and historical festival.
