To Hindus, the holy site of Srisailam is one of the most sacred. Details for Srisailam temple Darshan timing and dates are ready. Lord Shiva, who is one of the main gods, picked Srisailam as his favorite place here on Earth, other than his home in Kailasa. He is called Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy and the goddess Parvati is called Bhramaramba here. This place is regarded as unique because it includes both a Jyotirlinga dedicated to Lord Shiva and a Shakti Peetha where people worship the goddess Shakti.
It is particularly famous for having the second Jyotirlinga and the sixth Maha Shakti Peetha and it’s referred to as Srigiri, Sirigiri, Sriparvatam and Srinagam. All these years, Kailash has been visited by numerous gods and famous people from all walks of life such as Narasimhaswamy and Sri Rama, as well as various sages, saints, kings and scholars. All of them traveled to Srisailam to receive divine blessings.

How to Reach Srisailam
There are regular buses from Srisailam. From Hyderabad, TSRTC buses depart from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, platform number 23. The first bus is at 3:30 am and the last bus is around 11:30 pm. If you are coming in your own vehicle, by bike, or by bus from Hyderabad, note that vehicles are not allowed through the Mannanur checkpost from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am. Similarly, at the Andhra Pradesh border checkpoints vehicles are not allowed between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am. Plan your travel start time accordingly.
Accommodation in Srisailam
Once you reach Srisailam, let us look at accommodation. Mostly the temple guest rooms are allotted to families. Single travelers often do not get temple rooms. I stayed with my family for two nights at APTDC Haritha Resort. A two-bed non-AC deluxe room costs ₹1,232 per day. For two days I paid ₹2,464. I chose it because it is very close to the temple.
All castes are welcomed at the temple guest houses but online booking is not available for many of those rooms. If you go directly and rooms are available, they will usually be given only to families. The temple runs many guest houses such as Mallikarjuna Sadana, Pataala Sadana, Ganga and Gauri Sadana, Ganesh Sadana. These are managed by the devasthanam. Rooms at Ganga and Gauri Sadana are rarely open for online booking, so if you come in person try the kulasadar rooms first. If nothing is available, go to the devasthanam guest houses and try there.
To book online you can use the Srisailam devasthanam website, YatraDham site, or the APTourism website. I have links in the video description. For single travelers there is Nandishwara Dormitory on the way to Pataala Ganga that offers single beds and locker facilities. There is also the Srisaileshwar AC Dormitory near Mallikarjuna Sadana that accepts single persons. Near the Srisailam bus stand there is Srisaila Shivashankar Deluxe Dormitory. Choose the dorm or room that fits your budget. To check which devasthanam rooms are vacant, visit the CRO office near Nandi Circle.
Temple Significance and Nandi Circle
Srisailam is the second among the Dwadasha Jyotirlingas, sixth among the Ashtadasha Shakti Peethas, and the sixth in the Dashabhaskara list. The circle shown in the video is called Nandi Circle. From here, if you go straight you arrive at the main temple gate. For devotees who cannot walk easily there are battery-operated vehicles. These run from Nandi Circle up to the ticket counters and the annaprasad distribution complex.
Temple Approach and Gangaadhara Mandapam
When you reach the main gate you will see the Gangaadhara Mandapam. Many devotees light lamps for Sri Bramarambika Mallikarjuna Swamy here. During Kartika month on Pournami day, the Jwala Toranam (flame arch) is celebrated grandly at Gangaadhara Mandapam. If you go left of the main gate you will find the police station and, behind it, the temple guardian Baillu Veerabhadra Swamy. After his darshan, the free darshan queue is a short distance ahead. Near that queue there is a free footwear keeping place, cloakroom, and mobile deposit counter.
Types of Darshan Tickets and Rules
There are three main types of darshan tickets at Srisailam:
- Seegra Darshan (fast darshan) ₹150.
- Ati-Seegra Darshan (super fast) ₹300.
- Sparsha Darshan (touch darshan) ₹500.
Donation counter tickets for special seva are separate. Those who book online get time slots. If you book online, bring your original Aadhaar and a printed copy of the ticket when you go for darshan. For Sparsha Darshan (₹500), visitors must wear traditional dress. Men should wear dhoti or pancha kunduva and women should wear saree or salwar-kameez. I went for darshan on a Sunday evening. Weekends are very crowded, so I took the ₹300 ticket. My darshan took about one hour.
Special Sevas and Donations
For special sevas such as abhishekam in the garbha griha, aksharabhyaasam, annaprasana, kumkuma archana, Chandi Homam, Rudra Homam, Mrityunjaya Homam, Valli Devasena Subrahmanya Swamy Kalyanam, and Sri Swamy and Ammai Kalyanam, tickets are issued at the donation counter. These sevas can also be booked online through the Srisailam devasthanam official website.
Prasadam and Annaprasad Timings
After darshan you will find the laddu prasadam counter close to the annaprasad distribution complex. Annaprasad timings are usually 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Evening tiffin is from about 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Must-Visit Places in Srisailam
Plan your visit based on time available. If short on time, prioritize. Below is a suggested Day 1 set of places, starting with five locations up to the Shikharam.
Transport to Shikharam and Dam
From Nandi Circle there are shared autos and jeeps. To reach the Shikharam, shared autos or jeeps charge about ₹150 per person. To go up to the dam they charge about ₹250 per person.
Sakshi Ganapati Temple
Sakshi Ganapati is about 2.4 km from Nandi Circle. Devotees usually visit Sakshi Ganapati first and inform him that they are coming to the Srisaila Kshetra. The deity grants darshan and devotees sometimes register their names at the temple.
Paladar and Panchadar
Paladar Panchadar is around 0.5 km from Sakshi Ganapati. The entrance to Paladar has roughly 150 steps. Here you can see medicinal herbs, Shiva lingas, and many other natural features. Only knowledgeable people should take herbs. Paladar and Panchadar are considered the milk and five streams that originated from the Lord. If you observe carefully you may see six streams. Their source remains a mystery. Adi Shankaracharya did penance here and composed Shiva Ananda Lahari. Nature at this spot is remarkable. Definitely include this place in your visit.
Hatakeshwara Temple
About 0.5 km from the Paladar Panchadar entrance lies Hatakeshwara. Historically, a devotee named Keshappa from the Kumari community served travelers and prepared food. After an incident in which his cooking vessels were broken, Shiva appeared and provided food inside the pots. Because of this, the place is known as Atikunda or Atikeshwara and later Hatakeshwara. The temple is dedicated to that story of divine grace.
Lalitha Devi Peetha
Inside the complex you first see Subrahmanya Swamy and then Lalitha Devi on the left side. The Sri Chakra in this peetha is said to have been established by Adi Shankaracharya. Photography is not permitted here. After Lalitha Devi darshan you can perform a small abhishekam to the Salagram Linga for a charge of ₹2. On the back side you can see Guru Dakshinamurthy and Ganapati. The surrounding forest has stories of tigers visiting at night. The ashram also distributes annaprasad roughly between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.
Shikharam (Hilltop) Details
Shikharam is about 5 km from Hatakeshwara and about 9 km from Nandi Circle. To reach the summit there are taxis. There is also a staircase route with parking at the toll gate left side. The parking area is large but there are some stairs to climb. People who climb the steps will feel like they have climbed a high peak and enjoy nature.
At the top you must purchase a ticket for Shikharam darshan; the ticket costs ₹20. Visit Shikharam first and on the way back visit Shri Shikhareswara Swamy. The Shikharam is the highest peak of the Srisaila mountain range, about 2,830 feet above sea level. Near the base of the Nandi there is a rolling stone where devotees place nine grains and turn it while remembering Mallikarjuna. If you can see the temple shikhara from the turning point you are said to attain moksha and will be freed from rebirth. The ancient temple here was once called Veerashankaraalayam and later became known as Shikhareswara.
After visiting these five places, returning to Srisailam town takes around two to three hours.
Places Behind Mallikarjuna Temple
Behind the Mallikarjuna Swamy temple there are several important sites:
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Inspiration Center.
- Allamma Kanneeru (Mallamma’s Tears).
- Panchamukha Shivalinga.
- Rudraksha Matha.
- Baillu Veerabhadra Swamy Temple.
A shared auto or jeep tour that covers these five places costs around ₹150 per person from Nandi Circle. There are also walkable routes if you prefer to walk.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Inspiration Center
Near the Shivaji gopuram is Gantamatta. Go past it and you will find the Shivaji inspiration center. Entrance ticket is ₹10. The center includes a meditation mandir. The life and court of Shivaji Maharaj have been represented very well here. It is a must-visit spot in Srisailam. Historically, Shivaji Maharaj is said to have meditated for Bramarambika here. Records mention a 1677 meeting involving the Golconda ministers Akkanna and Madanna and Shivaji Maharaj.
Rudraksha Matha
About a 10 minute walk from the inspiration center is Rudraksha Matha. Under a large banyan tree you see Kalika Ammai and Chinnamasta Devi. In ancient times there were many mathas around Srisailam; what remains are mostly five mathas called the Panchamathas. Rudraksha Matha got its name from a sage who brought a Shiva linga from Kashi and used rudraksha in penance. For Maha Shivaratri the matha distributes rudraksha to devotees.
Panchamukha Shivalinga
On the way from Rudraksha Matha toward Mallamma Kanneeru, near the AMP theater cultural hall, you can find the Panchamukha Shivalinga, a self-manifest linga showing five faces: Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Tatpurusha, Aghora, and Ishana. It is believed that Dattatreya Swamy worshipped here and made the place a datta peetha. Nearby there is also a Brahma linga and Vishnu linga.
Mallamma Kanneeru
Mallamma Kanneeru is about a five minute walk from the Panchamukha Shivalinga and roughly 1.5 km from the main temple. Hemareddy Mallamma was a great devotee of Shiva who later renounced worldly life and served cows and feeding travelers. Mallikarjuna Swamy is said to have appeared to her. The place where she wept is now called Mallamma Kanneeru. Inside you can see items used by Mallamma, a small Shivalaya, and a swing she used. There is a small trickle of water from a pot which is called Mallamma’s Tears. People pray and swing the swing to seek fulfillment of wishes. There is also a traditional ritual with a wooden ladle where devotees test their wishes.
Other Attractions Near the Toll Gate
After crossing the toll gate at the entrance are Nandi Park, Basavavanam, and the Chenchulaxmi Tribal Museum. The tribal museum explains the lifestyle of the Chenchu people living in the Nallamala forests. These places are approximately 1 km from the main temple.
Day Two: Akkamahadevi Caves
On Day Two, if you want to visit Akkamahadevi caves, arrive at Pataala Ganga for the ropeway between 5:00 and 6:00 am to register your name. Note that only 100 tickets are issued per day. After registering your name you must confirm tickets at the bottom either by ropeway or by stair route. Plan to be down by 8:30 to 9:00 am. The ropeway round trip ticket price is ₹80. From above the ropeway you get a scenic view of Pataala Ganga. The ropeway ride takes around two hours round trip and is not to be missed. I have a full video about Akkamahadevi caves in the Srisailam travel vlog playlist. That video covers precautions, food, journey time, and full details about the caves. The cave visit is usually a half day. If you have time after the caves, behind the main temple there is a pushkarini where you can visit Siddharamappa pond and waterfalls. There are about 300 steps to reach those falls. The pond is associated with a devotee named Siddharamappa who tried to sacrifice himself for Mallikarjuna but was saved miraculously.
Ishtakameshwari Temple (Dettrey Area)
Now we will look at how to visit Ishtakameshwari Devi Temple. This temple lies deep in the thick Nallamala forest. It is 23 km from Srisailam and roughly 10 km from Shikharam. Only 120 devotees are allowed per day. Sixteen tickets can be booked online and the remaining 104 tickets are issued at the neck point jungle ride near the Shikharam one day before. If booking online, tickets must be reserved 15 days in advance. For walk-in ticket buyers, tickets are issued at the neck point jungle ride booth at 8:00 am, but many people start queuing from 3:00 or 4:00 am. The ticket cost is ₹1,000. From July to September the jungle ride does not operate. Each jeep can carry only eight people.
Ishtakameshwari Devi is unique to the Srisailam kshetra; there is no other famous temple in India with this deity in the exact form as here. It is one of Srisailam’s great mysteries. Devotees strongly believe that Ishtakameshwari fulfills heartfelt wishes. Many devotees report a spiritual sensation like a gentle touch near the deity when they pray with a firm heart.
