Ahobilam is a holy pilgrimage centre located in the Nallamala Hills of the Andhra Pradesh state and it is known as the Nava Narasimha Kshetra or the pilgrimage centre of nine temples devoted to Lord Narasimha, the lion-man avatar of Vishnu. This 13 th century location, 400 kilometres north-west of Chennai, among the 108 Divya Desams, is where Narasimha decapitated demon king Hiranyakashipu to rescue faithful devotee Prahlada. The temples are divided into the upper and lower Ahobilam where the temples possess special forms of Narasimha:

jwala (fierce eight-armed), ahobila (Ugra, self-manifested), malola (peaceful with Lakshmi), kroda (Varaha), karanja, bhargava, yogananda, chatravata and pavana (purifying, forest based). The Ugra Sthambham is a mountain crack located 8km away form Upper Ahobilam that marks the appearance of Narasimha. Trek to Jwala Narasimha has 900 steps, whereas Pavana and Bhargava one need to be transported using a jeep (Rs. 3,500). Darshan hours are 6:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM (Lower) and 7.00 AM to 7.00 PM (Upper). Thousands of people gather at Brahmotsavam (February 2025) and Narasimha Jayanti. Guest houses and dharamshalas are found and guides (Rs. 1,500) are advised on treks.

It is perhaps one of the most architectural marvels, say that it is famous for its location and the idyllic setting provided around the temple. The pilgrims get to see the deity for 10-15 minutes in a week and 20-30 minutes in a week end. During festivals it can be as long as forty-five minutes for darshan time. The entry ticket for the temple is priced for Rs fifty per head. Other related sevas and poojas are also arranged during the Packages/Hospitality which cost from Rs. 10/- to Rs. 20000/-each.
