Kailasa Nath Ellora Darshan Booking 2025: Timings & Prices

Ellora is situated about 22 kms from Aurangabad, but it is famous for numerous well-known cave temples which are situated in the low hills about 1 ½ kilsom from Ellora. The Carvings on these ancient temples, previously overgrown with forests, have now become the most frequented site and site of archaeological attraction in India, the country’s pride being listed with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation as a World Heritage Site.

These rock shelters are located in the Sahyadri Hills and are caves dug out on the vertical basalt face of the cliff. Among those 34 rock cut caves, caves 1-12 are Buddhist, caves 13-29 are Brahminical and caves numbers 30-34 are Jaina. Cave 16 also called Kailasa temple is the largest monolithic structure in the world today with an area of approximately 18500 sq ft.

Kailasa Nath Temple

Kailasa Temple has characteristics of having a length of 300 feet width of 175 feet and a height greater than one hundred feet. That is, it differed from most other performa rock-cut structures where the work starts from bottom moving up to the top. Chisels and hammers were used and no form of scaffolding was used when sculpting the temple.

Because of its largest size, complex planning, and fine craftsmanship, the Kailasa Temple certainly occupies high architectural value in Indian history.
